Small moderator update on the memes situation.

    Posted: 26 Nov 2020 08:29 AM PST

As some of you might have noticed, /r/Hearthstone, which used to have a total ban on memes, has been allowing more or less all memes for a period of time now. The plan was to run a free-for-all trial period and then query the community on what you believe would be the preferred meme policy on the subreddit, but that plan changed when the fire nation attacked the new rewards system happened and all hell broke loose.

So, consider this a small impromptu meta-thread on the whole meme situation. Should we ban all memes? Should the free-for-all continue? Some sort of middle-ground which is difficult to adequately define and moderate? (As an example, this visual-guide to memes was one of our attempts at a middle ground, but the subjective nature of it gave us quite a lot of issues)

We look forward to hearing your feedback!

Frodan and Sottle reply to Zalae and Orange’s concerns about “not speaking up”. Discussion point: are players really asking creators to say “Blizzard sucks”?

    Posted: 26 Nov 2020 03:34 AM PST

The "debate" on wether or not the new system is better is meant to divide us and obfuscate the real issue: $500 a year does not even give you CLOSE to a full collection.

    Posted: 26 Nov 2020 10:18 AM PST

The bottom line is this. You can calculate a few different ways, in the end the new system is not substantially better (if at all). And it should be incredibly more generous, because the old one was abysmal. The game is extremely expensive, and getting more expensive, period. The "is it better or worse than before" debate is just smoke and mirrors to divide the players.

Even saying "yeah in some corner cases it's a bit worse, but it's like 10% better for everyone else" is a slap in the face. It should better for EVERYONE, no matter how you wish play. And it should be A LOT better, to keep up with the inflation of content: 311 new cards were released in 2016, 440 in 2020, That's 30% more cards. And there's going to be mini-expansions now, and the battle pass if you want to keep up with XP...

It is a fact that now, for the same time and money invested, you don't get as much content as before, relative to the entirety of the released content. Back when we had two full expansions a year, X money and/or Y time would get you Z% of the overall content. Now with 3 full expansions, X money and/or Y time gets you less than Z% of the overall content. Significantly less even! I don't know how mini-expansions are going to factor in, but it's probably going to get worse...

The economy does not keep up, and it was already terrible. If you buy every pre-order, adventure, promo bundle and tavern pass, the game costs more than $500 a year. And that amount of money does not even give you a complete collection! F2P and the dust system ate such a joke I won't even start.

We are not angry because we want free stuff, we are angry because we want fair prices to enjoy the game we love.

Edit: I'm not arguing that we should all easily achieve a full collection and that it is necessary to enjoy the game. I'm arguing that wether you play F2P or F2P, wether you spend 10 or 100 hours, 40 or 120 bucks, you should get way more in return than what we get right now.

Blizzard pulls Hearthstone AMA after community backlash

    Posted: 26 Nov 2020 09:24 AM PST

The more time Blizzard waits the more it feels like there are so many more issues with the game. The box of Pandora has been opened.

    Posted: 26 Nov 2020 09:39 AM PST

Streamers asking community to calm down are helping Blizzard in ruining the game.

    Posted: 26 Nov 2020 08:44 AM PST

I don't know if they do it on purpose or accidentaly. But the truth is that Blizzard really wants the community to calm down and then not change anything. They just want to wait until the whole thing blows. Streamers are not helping by asking to calm down. Streamers really don't want to say anything bad about Blizzard. You can see the streamers who don't criticize Blizzard are those who are always invited on various Blizzard events. See the pattern?

It really annoys me that on one hand they don't want to push Blizzard and on the other hand they pretend that they are on community's side. The general response from the big streamers is "yeah, it's pretty bad, but look at the community how they are angry and disrespectful!". Others just pretend that they don't care. Stop pretending that community reaction is bigger problem then the poor economy of the game. The sad truth is that angry people are more likely to be heard. No one is gonna care about another constructive feedback about economy of the game. They had that for years and did nothing to improve it. Now is the only chance to change something for the better. Don't listen to that bullshit about "calming down". Blizzard will only react if the situation is critical.

Honestly i am really disappointed about the reaction of most streamers. Streamers that I liked and watched. I kinda lost all respect for them (not gonna name anyone, but you probably know which streamers I have in mind). The only one who was a pleasant suprise was Solem. He released two great videos about the problem, I think they are worth watching.

Streamers turned out to be a bunch of cowards.

ps: sorry for poor english, not native speaker

    edit;

Post may seem a bit harsh, it's just because I really enjoy the game. I really liked how Blizzard in recent years did something more than only releasing expansions and I started to spend quite a lot of money on the game. Now I feel cheated. Like I was stabbed in the back. I'm not going to play and pay for that game until something changes.

Not really as mad at the tavern pass as other people, but I do think Blizz is a bit greedy. For example, why do we get the option to buy a Thanksgiving bundle but we have no Thanksgiving based event for extra XP?

    Posted: 26 Nov 2020 06:54 AM PST

Just like the title says. Holidays and things like every other weekend should be extra XP. Not hard to implement.

Since it feels a lot of you are forgetting, Blizzard still hasn’t fixed bugs with the reward system as well as the amount of gold earned daily.

    Posted: 26 Nov 2020 08:10 AM PST

From someone who spends quite a bit of time day to day playing, I some days don't see much earned anymore. I would consistently get a pack a day and it made my daily progress feel like something. I understand the rewards system was put in place to help new players and old ear more gold, but it simply doesn't and IN YOUR LIVESTREAM promised it would be. This needs to be fixed and bandaid solutions like the Thanksgiving bundle doesn't fix this issue for a lot of players who simply don't play to win. Give us more options to earn in the rewards track, or throw us a bit bigger of a bone so we can chew on it for longer. (Have you considered adding another tier if the battle pass and simple giving us 5 more rewards? Rant over

Here is the deleted twitter post for Blizzard's (cancelled?) Q&A

    Posted: 25 Nov 2020 07:47 PM PST

If Streamers won’t support us, why support them?

    Posted: 26 Nov 2020 04:14 AM PST

I get that the environment in HS is getting more and more toxic between streamers, viewers, and HS fanatics alike but I don't get how streamers aren't understanding this simple message?

Most if not all streamers unless they're huge and come from mixed/different game backgrounds get their income from their viewers. All of their support is garnered through viewership, donations, twitch subs, etc. which eventually translates to Blizz inviting said popular streamers to tournaments and events.

What I feel about streamers who are not speaking up about the battle pass, or claim ignorance that it doesn't affect them is that they are 100% forgetting who got them where they are. The only reason you're still above water is due to people watching and supporting your streams and YouTube videos. Why should we keep doing that if you won't even support us now? Lots of people (wont just name them but quite a few HS streamers) refuse to even take a stance.

We are NOT asking for you to name ur stream BOYCOTT BLIZZARD or BLIZZARD BAD, we're asking streamers to at the very least acknowledge the fact that it's a broken unfair system that needs to be changed for the better of the community - unlike many who are getting mad at us for asking such a simple request.

I know I personally haven't played HS in over a week because I want change to happen, but that hasn't stopped me from watching such an amazing expansion. That's the same reason why nowadays I donate to Zeddy and Regis and Solem so much more because I'd rather my money be spent on people who at the very least acknowledge how me and others are being treated.

At the end of the day, if the system stays like this, I'd say a good amount of people will leave. And that will have an impact on streamer viewership. Blizzard has done this before, just ask HOTS lol

Edit: my POV and primary concern regarding the frustration of a bad battle pass, and even worse communication from blizzard are seriously foreshadowed by my demeaning tone and I'd like to apologize for that.

I'm thankful that we have streamers, the same way that I know they're thankful that they have us - someone to enjoy the game with and just vibe out with an entire community. My frustration just lies in the position they're put in, and In the end was just looking for some kinda acknowledgement that they at least understand our reasoning as to the pettiness and pushing for this change.

My Updated thoughts on the Battlepass from a Content Creator Perspective

    Posted: 26 Nov 2020 01:02 PM PST

Instead of comparing HS with other card games, why not compare it to a game from the SAME COMPANY?

    Posted: 26 Nov 2020 06:23 AM PST

Why not compare it to a game from the same company, WoW? I know they are different genres (MMORPG vs Card game, but there are no laws out there that say how its genre should be monetized)

    • With the best subscription bundle WoW costs 11$/month or 132 for a year (+ an extra 50 every 2 years lets say, which adds 2$ monthly).

    • Previous expansions are free , just need sub and when you feel like it you buy the new expansion.

    • Huge variety of content. PvP, PvM , collection stuff , probs some RP (never delved into that)

    • New updates and content patches dont require you to pay more to access them cough mini expansions cough

    • Achievements mean something! You did that hard thing? Congrats dude heres a mount/title/whatever to show off.

    • Bonus point, people can create their own content like player run tournaments, contests (for example the streamer Asmongold hosts many events and rewards winner from his own pocket).

    Now for Hearthstone :

    • Say you buy the Mega-Bundle each expansion, three times per year, that is 80$ per bundle and 240$ yearly, and it DOESNT EVEN GIVE YOU THE FULL SET. This includes the Battlegrounds Perks but not the Tavern pass which is an extra 20$

    • New mini expansions you gotta pay for, not covered by the Mega-Bundle , lets be extremely generous and say 20$ per new mini-expansion.

    • You want cards from previous expansions? Tough luck you gotta pay even more for packs or craft them with the extremely unfair dust system (4 legendaries destroyed to make 1 new etc)

    • Variety of content in constructed , Arena, single player, Tavern brawl, Duels and Battlegrounds, but to fully experience most of them you need to spend more money (Duels Treasures locked behind previous expansion epics etc,)

    • Achievements poorly implemented after 6 years, most of them meaningless , some of them give exp (Why do I have to click them one by one??)

    • Tournament mode scrapped years ago.

Yes as I said they are different genres. Yes WoW is not free but dont forget WoW token is a thing so if you play enough it can be.

I would honestly prefer it if Blizzard asked 10$ monthly from me and let me access everything that this fiasco. Just because its a CCG it doesnt have to be so greedy

And thats it from the top of my head. Does WoW have problems? Of course it does BfA was ass, but even if you didnt like BfA you can either do other content that suits you or just drop WoW entirely untill you feel its worth it again. Good luck dropping HS and coming back after 2 expansions.

TL;DR : We are comparing HS to other card games when a game made by the same company is managed so much better, even if it has a monthly subscription.

    Posted: 26 Nov 2020 08:52 AM PST

More then a week has passed and still plenty of bugs are still in!

    Posted: 26 Nov 2020 02:18 AM PST

Let's put on pause for a second the whole problem about the Battle Pass, experience and everything. It's been more then a week, and the game is full of all sort of bugs that hit the majority of the player-base or only a few of them

    • Weekly/Daily quest not showing up
    • Oh My Yogg transforming the spell in a "Choose One" and giving the effect 3 times
    • Yogg Saron bugging out the game when it lands on the "Fill your hand of 0 cost spells"
    • Leveling up on the Battle Pass requiring you to restart the game to get the rewards
    • Achievements requiring restart to be collected, and some being completely bugged
    • All the old "Secret Quest" being removed from the game without notice
    • Reconnecting to games works as bad as ever. Even soft-locking people if playing against a friend
    • Heroic Duels softlock on the reward screen
    • Yogg Saron not working as intended in some cases with Coin/Innervate/Bloom
    • Getting a Golden Legendary from the Reward Trail
    • Cards missing from the Arena pool
    • Epics of DMF having an higher offering rate in Arena
    • Arena wins pre-Achievements not been added
    • Quests not progressing when done in the Taver Brawl
    • and plenty more that probably don't even get reported or I don't have in mind right now.

If you want to give us a game un-rewarding and that needs us to grind 24/7 to get something, at least sort out this problems or, at the very least, tell us you are trying to sort them out!

edit: added some more bugs in italics from the comments and some I remembered
