Hearthstone Duels & Weekly Quests Hotfix

Hearthstone Duels & Weekly Quests Hotfix

    Duels & Weekly Quests Hotfix

    Posted: 18 Nov 2020 12:50 PM PST

    Hey everyone,

We're currently deploying a hotfix that includes the following –

    • Fixed a bug where Heroic Duels ratings were inaccurately set. Heroic Duels ratings have been reset to 0 for all players.
    • Fixed a bug where Duels games were not contributing to class progress.
    • Fixed a bug where some players were not receiving new Weekly Quests.

These fixes will take place on the server side, so you will not need to download anything if you've already updated to the 19.0 patch.

DAY 3 of protesting for a fairer monetization model

    Posted: 18 Nov 2020 10:20 AM PST

Hia, long-time Hearthstone player here. Now seems like its as good of a time as ever to bring light to the scamish monetization model that has been in Hearthstone for years. So, until there's an official Blizzard PR response to these protests, I'll post this every day. Today is day 3:

Is Hearthstone really a AAA game? Does it have next-gen graphics, a engaging story, a constant slew of new content without updates, and a development time of years? No, it's a grindy game whose expansions cost the price of multiple AAA games every four months. That's absurd. It only gets away with it because it almost has a monopoly.

I'd like to propose that there should be one and only boycot demand which is that a person should be able to aquire every card in the set by paying the price of less than a AAA game. This is without any play, straight-up just pack-opening from a special pre-order purchase. The endgame and rare-pulls grind would be for goldens, which have so far been exclusively for very rich people as virtually everybody dusts goldens.

I don't believe the old progression needed changes since free-to-play players shouldn't be asking for more than a glorified demo anyways.

Hearthstone comparatively to other games in what it offers versus its pricing is, bluntly-put, a bad joke.

Please upvote this and repost this to protest against Blizzard. If we do not let this die, Blizzard's PR will eventually have to respond to this specific demand of a lower price like they responded to our protests about the Tavern Pass. Let's rise in revolt, comrades of the working class! I encourage any and all of you to make your own daily protest post too, until this happens! It'll start with me and end with a lot of us. So keep up the stream of protests until we get an answer!

I'm very interested to see how community discussions about my idea evolve throughout the days of my protest and I'll be responding in comments.

Not being able to earn any gold in the days after an expansion releases feels REALLY bad.

    Posted: 18 Nov 2020 10:15 AM PST

I know the rewards system is shit but beyond that it feels horrible to play right now. I'm one of those people that saves between expansions, spends all of my gold and then keeps buying single packs in the days after release until I hit one more legendary and then I start saving for the next expansion.

I am 24 packs into the pity timer but have no way of earning gold for another pack without a serious grind (I'm at Level 22 on the tavern pass; Level 23 is a Scholomance pack, Level 24 is 100 gold and Level 25 is a random legendary). So over the next week or more of grinding, I'll earn 100 gold for one lousy pack instead of the 4-500 gold I would have normally received from just doing daily quests. Feels bad man.

Pity Timers for Legendaries & Epics Should be Halved

    Posted: 18 Nov 2020 08:50 AM PST

Currently, the pity timer for Legendaries is 40 and for Epics it's 10. On average, you'll get a Legendary every 20 packs and an Epic every 5. To contextualize why these rates are so abysmall, lets look at the amount of Legs/Epics in a traditional set. Using Darkmoon Faire as an example, there are 25 legendaries and 48 epics to collect. Now looking at pre-order bundles, we see (traditionally) 50 card and 80 + 5 options. On average (if we include the bundled legendary) , you'll get 4 legendaries from the smaller 50$ bundle and, close to 6 in the 80$ bundle. I'm sorry, but paying anywhere between 50-80$ should net you a lot more then just 20-25% of the legendaries in the set.

The issue is even worse for F2P players who don't get a bundled legendary. In the older system, frequent players could save up to around a solid 8k gold. On average, they'd only be coming away with 4/5 legendaries. It's ridiculously abysmall that you can grind daily and at best receive around 25% of the legendary cards in the set and still be missing a large amount of epics (I would do the math but I'm tired and I have class in 30 minutes).

I know the argument for better rewards is not a new one. I've been playing for 5 years and have spent a considerable sum on the game. All that being said, Hearthstone as a game just isn't rewarding, and it never really has been. There isn't a better time to advocate for change then when a company has royally fucked up. And while I know simply changing rates isn't the only improvement needed to the economy (gold/dust with quest is another great idea, additonaly reduced xp cost per level/buffed xp gain), I would like to spark (hopefully), more dialogue amongst the community as we advocate for a better system for all players.

It feels so bad to open 100 packs out of megabundle and having to choose 1 competitive deck to go for because you have so little.

    Posted: 18 Nov 2020 01:41 AM PST

    Just had to vent.

The non duplicates were good, but not near enough. Legendaries and epics are so expensive. Opened 100 packs and I can barely try one new cool deck with other being bad budget versions. Even tho I got 7, 8 legendaries, there are so many and so many previous ones to every deck.

I reckon that this is a common feeling, but it was the first time I got one of those megabundles. Guess I will never again.

EDIT: This is the first time I pre-ordered, so, please don't come at me as if I have being doing this all my life. The pre-order deal seemed really nice this time with all the expectations we had before the disastrous rewarded system and that sweet Nztoh portrait.

EDIT 2: I've being playing for some time and spending some money here and there, I have many cards from previous X-Pac. The point is: I felt like if I paid this much money I would get more and more excitement. It just feels like a huge waste of money. It was my choice, but I'm just venting that I regret it.

EDIT 3: I think the epics hit even harder. There are so many and they usually find home in just one deck. You have to dust a legendary to make one epic, it is just too sad.

If we want change, WE NEED TO KEEP THIS GOING!

    Posted: 18 Nov 2020 09:01 AM PST

Historically speaking, this sub can get bored of this kind of stuff really quickly. Like, even shortly before Blizzard released the statement, there was already fewer posts regarding Battle Pass and more and more people saying "can we stop with this now?" and "it's getting stale and annoying".

Look, we accomplished A LOT! There are articles from various gaming magazines and if I'm not mistaken, this is the first time expansion news weren't anywhere on this sub. But most importantly, we got few packs worth of gold and EXP bonus (which may or may not happen), that we otherwise would've! If this sub keep looking like this for I don't know, a month or more (ideally until change happens), it's possible that we can actually accomplish something even more significant!

Don't settle for less than we deserve! Don't forget how shitty the system was in the first place! Just keep it going!

I've been playing Hearthstone for 6 years, here's why I'm calling it quits now...

    Posted: 18 Nov 2020 11:39 AM PST

So I started playing HS back in mid 2014, I remember seeing YouTubers playing it and thought it looked fun so I decided to play it myself, I really enjoyed it, even through the most frustrating metas like face hunter and pirate warrior I always came back to play more.

I used to play a lot of constructed and arena, I was pretty bad at arena when I started playing it but watching Kripp's videos helped me improve a lot, actually got my average up to 7-8 wins, but in recent times, since the release of Battlegrounds really, I've only really played BG's, it's loads of fun and has a lot of replayability, despite how unlucky you can get sometimes.

But here's why I'm quitting the game now, I used to pre-order all of the expansions, but since I don't play constructed anymore I've stopped buying them, in fact Darkmoon Faire is the first expansion I haven't bought, but when I logged on yesterday to play some BG's I noticed that my perks were gone, (for anyone unaware the BG's perk allows you to chose from 4 heroes instead of 2 and shows you your BG's stats). I saw that I'd have to pay 2,000 gold (or £13) to reacquire the perks, not only would I have to re-purchase something I already owned but the perks would expire every 4 months, (after the release of a new expansion), and would need to be continually re-purchased.

I don't have a lot of free time to rank up their new battle pass system to get enough gold to buy the perks, and I refuse to pay £13 every 4 months to have an enjoyable experience on something that used to be free, so given that the only game mode I play in HS is no longer F2P I've decided to quit HS.

So that's it, after more than 6 years of being a dedicated player, spending God only knows how much money on this game, and building a large collection in-game, Blizzards relentless greed has finally driven me away, it's a damn shame because like I said I've enjoyed playing HS even through the worst times in the game, but charging me for the BG's perks coupled with the replacement of the old quest system with a battle pass has made me quit.

I'm really disappointed in Blizz, after the amount of time and money I've put into their game, I can no longer play it.

    Never spending money again.

    Posted: 18 Nov 2020 06:51 AM PST

I have been consistently getting the mega bundle pre-order for expansions since Boomsday. I've been picking up smaller bundles fairly frequently, stuff like the Thunder King bundle. I've spent more money on this game than I am proud to admit. But this? It's been bullshit after bullshit dealing with Blizzard moving the goalpost when it comes to this. Constantly reducing the over all content of the mega bundle. Adding extra pay walls for different modes (looking at you Battlegrounds). All of this bullshit to squeeze every bit of cash out of people that support this game. Well, no more. I'm done. I should have quit this habit long ago. The lies and the cost is too much. Even if Blizzard makes a full 180 and fixes the progression system, I'm still done. This should make everyone upset. Everyone should be cutting their losses. Stop spending money. Blizzard has repeatedly shown that they don't deserve it.

While I like having a carrot dangled while I play to motivate me, Blizzard has set the Rewards Track up to be a shitty carrot too far away.

    Posted: 18 Nov 2020 07:25 AM PST

The rate of progression and quality of rewards are clearly way off, but there is a lot of potential here in terms of the progression mechanisms Blizzard put in place.

I love having goals to work towards after daily quests are done, and progressing on the rewards track allows for that. Blizzard has added a motivational carrot to dangle in front of us, but right now the carrot is too far away, and it's a shitty carrot. I need better carrots, or at least have these carrots closer.

I have hope. My hope lies within how easy it would be for Blizzard to recalibrate the Rewards Track and allow these mechanisms to work as "intended." Unfortunately, I worry that greed will dash that hope.

Blizzard, its so heart(h)breaking that such cool gameplay is hidden behind a BIG PAY WALL and PACKS RNG

    Posted: 18 Nov 2020 04:05 AM PST

Aren't you really feeling bad about it? You've done a good job, but such small amount of people can fully enjoy it. Its a shame that cool gameplay is hidden behind a paywall. Even spending 40$, 80$ can't guaranty that a person can craft 2-3 cool decks they want.

Isn't it bad? Its just horrible... We all love this game, but its too expensive to enjoy even half of it.

2 days since players lost theirs weekly quests and no fix yet, where's our compensation? (More than 6000xp lost)

    Posted: 18 Nov 2020 01:29 AM PST

In the quest reset (Monday) a lot of players didn't received theirs weekly quests, no pronunciation or fix so far, will players receive a compensation?

    https://us.forums.blizzard.com/en/hearthstone/t/weekly-quests-issue/45143 ( bug report thread)

https://www.reddit.com/r/hearthstone/comments/jvdzx8/blizzard_is_neglecting_a_game_breaking_bug/ (my last post regarding the issue)

In my last post you can see their CS team response, no fix prevision nor compensation promise so far, we lost a lot of gold with this new reward track and now players are losing quests, blizzard made 1.93 Billion U.S dollars of revenue in the second quarter of 2020 with all this money is that hard to properly test a update before launching ? Or to just fix it in time to players complete theirs weekly quests.

Edit: Thanks to all who upvoted and gave yours reports, i will be making a very detailed e-mail linking this post, previous posts and the bug report thread to blizzard support. I will make a new post based in their response and if it's negative an petition to demonstrate how many players are suffering from the bugs!

Don't feel bad for your past spending (of time and/or money) - it's okay to leave

    Posted: 18 Nov 2020 08:25 AM PST

I've been playing Hearthstone since the open beta, and for a very long time really enjoyed it. I've spent a LOT of time playing hearthstone (multiple heroes with 2k+ wins), and on top of that i've spent a lot of money on this game. So much so, that I'm too scared to even look at my blizzard purchases over the years (it's at least >€2.000).

And ever since I stopped really enjoying hearthstone as much, the investment I made in the past in both time and money kept me coming back. If i'd 'only' spend €150 on the new expansion, my collection would still matter and I could still be competitive. If you compare that to what I've already spent, it's peanuts. But it JUST KEEPS ADDING UP! And makes it even harder to really walk away.

What I've realised a bit too late, is that it's okay to see the time and money spent as something that happened, I had my enjoyment with Hearthstone, it really helped me get my mind off of things, gave me a nice feeling of being competitive and overall a lot of fun over the years. But once the fun is gone, and you only really regret having ever spent time and / or money on this game, WALK AWAY!

You can't change the past, but you can choose not to make the same mistake over and over again.

Google sunk cost fallacy, read a bit about it, and maybe you'll realise the same thing.

The most hilarious part of how bad the Battle Pass is (yup, another hate thread!)

    Posted: 18 Nov 2020 07:50 AM PST

So when pondering just how shitty the new system is, there are so many things to take into account. The slow progression, the abysmal rewards, the insane cost... so much to choose from.

But my absolute favorite part? It doesn't even accomplish the base objective they said it would: decreasing the reliance on daily quests, and reducing the feeling of loss when you miss one.

Going back to one of the first things the dev team said about the pass, they wanted to help you feel better if you had to miss a few days at a time. I mean we all knew that feeling, you missed a daily quest, or a few, and you were losing out on gold. That sucked. So with an XP progression system, you would still have access to the rewards, but the quest XP would just help you get there "faster"

Except that's 100% certified stupid and just not the case AT ALL. With how shit the xp is for actually playing the game, you are still COMPLETELY RELIANT on your quests. Miss your daily quests? That's the equivalent of 2-4 (depending on the size of the quest you would have rolled) hours of game time. Miss a weekly quest? That's a minimum 5-6 hours.

We are all still married and reliant on the daily quest system. This team is so incompetent and greedy that they couldn't accomplish the singular sensible goal that they outlined with this new system. What an absolute, laughable, pathetic joke.
