Sacrificial Pact should not kill Jaraxxus anymore

    Posted: 09 Apr 2020 12:36 PM PDT

Jaraxxus has not been played for 2 years now, because of Bloodreaver and Galakrond that are just better tempo-wise. Every single hero card they have printed has been a risk-free Jaraxxus.

By playing Jaraxxus, you use 9-mana for a 3-attack weapon, lose tempo, cut down your health pool in half, and risk of being instantly killed by a 0-mana card.

First, I believe Sacrifical Pact should not affect Jaraxxus. The interaction between Sac Pack and Jaraxxus comes from the times where Jaraxxus was the only infinite value generator, in the games that saw Chillwind Yetis and Boulderfist Ogres being played.

Now that Illidan has made a hero, there is absolutely no reason why the pacts should affect Jaraxxus. The current state is, every time a Warlock deck is prominent in the meta, Jaraxxus becomes unplayable.

Not having Battlegrounds perks is the best way to play!

    Posted: 09 Apr 2020 03:25 PM PDT

Let's try to look at this in a positive light!

    Only Two Heroes

    • Your choice between heroes is now a lot easier! No need to juggle between four different possibilities; instead, you get to choose between two. And a lot of times, the choice is pretty obvious!
    • And sometimes it's not as obvious. In these cases, your odds of getting the best choice is 50%: you either get it or you don't. Pretty good odds!
    • Since your decision-making will take less time, you'll probably never be the eighth person that everyone else is waiting on.
    • Your lack of choices means that you get to experience some of the heroes that nobody plays! Rather than decreasing variety, this means that you can experiment with suboptimal heroes that nobody in their right mind would pick otherwise! Why play as Millhouse or Edwin when you're forced to choose between Flurgl or Jaraxxus? It'll be an adventure either way!

    No Emotes

    • Since basically nobody is going to buy the Battle Pass, basically nobody has emotes any more. And isn't it great? You don't have to worry about seeing that annoying little gnome waving at you, or that tauren ogling you after beating your face in with a 20/20 Wrath Weaver on eight gold.
    • Fewer emotes means more attention and energy spent on making the right decisions, not on spamming your opponent with angry orcs.
    • Being unable to express your emotions will help you gain control over them and not give in to the violent hatred and animosity you feel toward other players of a children's card game. (We hope.)

    No Stats

    • Since you can't keep track of past builds, you don't need to worry or have regrets about getting 5th place seven times in a row. There's nothing to remind you of that! The future is bright.
    • Getting bad results has less of an impact on your track record, since you can only see numbers relating to your Top 4 and your 1st Place wins!
    • Having fewer numbers to look at means that there's less stuff there reminding you of just how much ungodly time you are spending on this sideshow autobattler game mode.

The obsession with cost reduction mechanic needs to stop. It has been proven to be very problematic throughout the game's history.

    Posted: 09 Apr 2020 03:29 AM PDT

Ashes of Outland is filled with cards that have a cost reduction mechanic. Demon Hunter was already nerfed (quickest nerf ever!) primarily due to Skull of Guldan, Eye Beam being extremely powerful cards. While cost reduction might be the easiest way to push power level to a certain degree, it has been toxic to the game's balance since almost.. ever?

Cost reduction mechanic might include cards that straight up reduce the cost of the card/ability like the aforementioned Eye Beam or it includes ways that cheats "bigger" stuff into play early.

To name a few cards that have been problematic or nerfed:

    - Luna's Pocket Galaxy

    - Raza the Chained

    - Preparation

    - Evolve

    - Mogu Fleshshaper

    - Corridor Creeper

    - Possessed Lackey

    - Molten Giant

By no means I am saying such mechanic should not exist, however, it should be, in my opinion, very limited and not widespread like it is right now. If some classes have more access or have more powerful ways to abuse it, the balance of the game immediately becomes fragile.

    Thoughts?
