PullsDay Thursday: Post Your Popped Packs

    Posted: 15 Apr 2020 05:07 PM PDT

    Greetings Travellers,

This is a new weekly thread to showcase your crazy or unlucky pack openings, for F2P players and whales alike!

The goal of this thread is to draw discussion around pack openings into a centralized post every week, so that players have a dedicated place to share their pulls. Whether you got a sweet Tavern Brawl reward or Arena chest, we want to see it! You can also post in /r/HSPulls.

Pack Openings are still relegated to a megathread on the first day of a new expansion

Note: I am a bot. Questions or feedback regarding this thread? Message the moderators.

Every class should have its Classic and Basic set revamped

    Posted: 16 Apr 2020 06:39 AM PDT

So, during new year announcement, Blizzard showed us new Priest cards in Classic and Basic. It was great news, but later I was disappointed that they didn't really told us that they are going to revamp other classes. Because, why not? There is a lot of talk about lack of card draw in some classes and that it's impossible to compete with classes that do have card draw. That is a serious problem, card draw shouldn't be a class weakness or power. A class without card draw is a dead class. HOFing more neutral card draw only made things worse. That problem could, and should be resolved by changing Basic and Classic cards.

Another point towards revamping Basic and Classic sets is class identity. Few months ago Blizzard told us the power, limitations and weakness of every class. The problem is that the Classic and Basic set don't really correspond with this. For example, Hunter, Priest and Rogue. The all have deathrattles as their strength. But there is no deathrattle support in Classic set. Another example, Paladin. Its strenght is minon swarm and it doesn't have a single one drop in its Basic and Classic set.

This could also be a great opportunity to bring some new keywords to Classic. I think that some classes should have rush minions. Some classes should have some lifesteal cards. I think that we can agree that discover is a core mechanic in Hearthstone and also should be included in Classic and Basic.

Another problem is that most of the classic set is completely useless. The power level of the cards is not the same as 6 years ago. And after rotation, when a lot of classes lose their most valuable cards, you can't really rely on Classic set. It's ok to have staple, powerful cards in Classic. Blizzard HOFed almost all cards that were good and left the set with garbage. And now, some classes are completely dead, because they don't even have the basic tools to create competitive deck.

I think revamping priest set was a great idea. It's probably the only reason that the class doesn't completely suck. It got good enough anti aggro buffs and its most hated deck (Resurrect Priest) is the only deck that can survive against DH more than a few turns. I think that even when they lose their resurrect package, the class will be fine in the future. Props to Blizzard for the buffs.

    Edit:

Another huge point comes to my mind. They are going to make a Basic and Classic set for Demon Hunter from available cards. Even if they choose the worst cards, Demon Hunter will have the strongest Basic and Classic set. It will be completely unfair with comparison to other classes. They will have Basic and Classic set that meets todays standards, while all other classes will have crippled (a looot of nerfs in the past) and weak sets with cards that were made six years ago.

A class whose identity reads "Cannot draw" is a class whose identity reads "Cannot play synergies past turn 4".

    Posted: 16 Apr 2020 09:20 AM PDT

Turn 4 because luckily you have an opening hand.

Galakrond/Tempo Priest has this problem. Spell Shaman has this problem.

Best Hunter had this problem until they got a variety of tutors. Warrior has this problem and runs Corsair Cache to tutor Anchor to tutor Risky Skipper which comboes with Battle Rage to be a drawing engine.

    Paladin has this problem.

The only synergy-based strategies of classes that can't tutor or draw specific components of their strategy, need to be able to end the game before the lack of draw disables the strategy. Libram Paladin is a perfect example of that. When the deck alligns it's a great deck to play and feels nearly competitive to top meta decks... But that's a 1-in-~6 scenario where you get the discounts, the librams and Liadrin in time.

Bad card draw is fine, almost none is not fine. In a game where the standard appears to be to draw 12-15 cards per game, having classes draw 0-2 is insane.

My face after getting OTK’d for the trillionth time this week.

Can I just say how great the Augmerchants are, design-wise?

    Posted: 16 Apr 2020 12:00 PM PDT

Basically, they take the utility of Cruel Taskmaster and spin that off into a cycle of highly flexible creatures. Not terribly flashy, but provide solid early-game utility (on-rate stats, possible applications of early-game removal) with decent late-game applications (giving an Evasive Drakonid divine shield is pretty darn good).

No other point, really. Just like their designs.

Demon Hunter 1-mana spells are all great

    Posted: 15 Apr 2020 10:42 PM PDT

Paladin is just total trash. It has no redeemable quality. No potential. Nothing. It's a dead class without draw and without playable early game, whose coolest cards don't even work. People shouldn't be "OK" with this. I can't recall the last time a class was this dead for this long.

    Posted: 16 Apr 2020 01:42 AM PDT

Seriously. After "Skip 12 turns, OTK" Paladin and "LUL hope they don't kill my Mechs" Paladin, now we have "LUL hope they don't kill my Murlocs" Paladin. Unironically, Neutrals prove time and time again to be the key pieces in Paladin.

That's it. That's all Paladin has been for the past year. A class that just prays it gets to execute the gameplan and else it rolls over and dies.

    Core issues are obvious.

    • No initiative.
    • No relevant Hero Power.
    • No value generation.

    Secondary issues are also obvious:

    • Half-arsed archetypes in every expansion wasting space.
    • Synergistic archetypes but no way to draw their cards.
    • A truly dogshit classic set with 2 cards that don't make you laugh at their mediocrity.
    • 70% of your class cards are so shit even discover consistently sucks.
    • A Secret identity whose only relevant application was a card that LITERALLY DREW AND PLAYED FIVE OF THEM to be useful.

When was the last time Paladin's unupgraded Hero Power was an important determinant of games... 2014 control mirrors? All those fancy buffs you run, how often do they just turn out to be tossed on a Silver Hand Recruit to be overpriced, understatted bodies (6 mana 5/5 anybody?) whose primary use is distraction? When is the last time you ran a Secret related card? Paladin has a Secret twinspell but the secrets are so trash you wouldn't run them if you got 2 for the price of one. How many more beyond mediocre dragon, secret and murloc cards will we get?

That secret payoff card, the 7/7, that's just downright hilarious. You literally play that card and when you get 1 decent and 1 good card out of it, that's a highroll. Let that sink in for a moment. you get FIVE class cards on a decently statted minion and if you like ONE of them, you feel like you lucked out. That's insane.

I look at Warlock playing Galakrond into Kronx into Alex into Zephrys and here I am with 17 cards still in my deck and an 8-cost Libram of Hope being my only useful card to play. Demon Hunter has me on 15 HP and has a board full of gunk and here I am, clicking my hero power and playing Hand of A'dal on it, hoping it saves me 2 health so I can maybe fetch my Consecration. Or the Priest, who, by playing Bad Luck Albatross, literally out-tempo's me for the rest of the game and the moment I draw an Albatross my hand is literally empty. Not to mention Fellow Human, Psychopump and the unsupported Galakrond, any of those seals the value game too. Druid does their thing and I literally cannot reply. My first realistic response to Druids turn 5 comes on like Turn 8, and requires 2 cards that I need to draw with maybe 1 cantrip?

What do they want from Paladin? What am I supposed to do? They can't seriously believe that a nerf to Warlock and Demon Hunter is going to do anything to bring Paladin back into the game?

And yes yes, I know, those dumb snowbally aggro decks, Paladin has a deck, yay. Thing is: the deck has nothing to do with paladin, what paladin stands for and what the fair, patient and thoughtful approach of a paladin should be. I look at the Librams and see cool design and a strategy that just makes sense for Paladin. I look at Murlocs and cry. It's just an abomination that is forced to carry our colors because somebody had to take the wonderful identity of vomiting fat little tadpoles on the board, and Paladin was nice enough to do it.

    Fix Paladin 2020.

2 Billion Attack Glyph Guardian in BG!

    Posted: 16 Apr 2020 01:34 PM PDT

This sub has helped me improve my gameplay by an astonishing amount.

    Posted: 16 Apr 2020 01:01 PM PDT

Every day, I come here, and I see a post on the front page with 3k+ upvotes complaining about a deck, so I have figured out that the secret is to find the most popular variation of the deck and play it.

Demon Hunter is oppressively resourceful? Play it.

Priest is tedious and uninteractive? Play it.

Druid ramps hard and drops 8-drops on turn 3? Play it.

Somebody got smashed by a Pyroblast off a Puzzle-box off a Tome of Intellect off a Magic Trick off a Puzzle-box off a Dune Sculptor off a Font of Power? Play it.

I've also noticed that the positive feedback I get off opponents has increased exponentially. They see me curve perfectly with Illidan, and I frequently get applause in the form of "Wow"s and "Holy Light!". One time, I even got an "I will hunt you down!" which really warmed my heart to see somebody so impressed that they would be willing to find me and congratulate me. That isn't even to mention the friendly messages I get from newly added opponents. I also hope your mother gets cans, sir, and while I appreciate the concern, mine is quite able to find some at the local supermarket.

Considering how much higher one can climb the ladder with these decks and the overwhelming positive feedback one receives for their achievements, I am honestly surprised to see so much volatility towards them!

Devs, I implore you, consider buffs to fix a post-expansion meta as well as nerfs

    Posted: 16 Apr 2020 01:43 AM PDT

Whilst there's no doubt that DH in particular is clearly overturned and needs nerfs to bring it in line with the rest of the classes, can you please consider buffing cards that were apparently supposed to be viable but are not, particularly when they form the core archetype of a class and thereby render that class severely underpowered compared to the competition?

The class won rates in this expansion are even more polarised than usual and being that we are at the beginning of a rotation, that sets those unfortunate classes at the bottom at a great disadvantage of a year or more. Paladin, Warrior and Shaman had a large portion of their new cards dedicated to particular archetypes that are just not good enough and if that isn't addressed then they will always be far being the rest of the classes in strength and diversity.

All it requires is a few mana or stat changes here for there for a couple of cards.. Please consider it, it will do as much for making the meta healthy as nerfs will.
