I've re-designed a variant to play Hearthstone with regular playing cards. Learn to play Hearthtop: Hearthstone for your tabletop, and experience the new DeckBuilding variant! (original post by u/iruul)

    Posted: 09 Mar 2020 02:29 AM PDT

    See the original post here.

Similar to u/iruul (great little HS variant design by the way) I enjoy game design and enjoyed playing Hearthstone with regular playing cards just as much as I enjoy playing the original game. I found HearthTop quite some time ago - with the original design being released about 4 years ago. In my spare time, I tinkmastersparkered with it a little bit and created a "DeckBuilding" variant to pair with it, which I'd like to share with you all!

It involves a turn-based somewhat open-deck choice system, where players choose from a number of selections to create the basis for their deck's minions, weapons and spells, then craft a 30 card deck revolving around the selections made (and the synergy these selections have with their hero and hero power).

The deck creation system also includes a 5-card "sabotage" from your opponent.

The link to the updated pdf can be found here (google docs link; it's safe I swear) and the link to the random deckbuilder spreadsheet can be found here (also a google docs link).

Enjoy, and feel free to leave any comments/suggestions you have! (especially gameplay reviews).

    Cheers! :)

Should you mulligan EVIL Miscreant in Galakrond Rogue?

Should you mulligan EVIL Miscreant in Galakrond Rogue?

Hey guys, so the data in HSReplay shows that people keep EVIL Miscreant 73% of the time in their opening hand (one of the highest kept %'s), however it only has a 55% Mulligan winrate (one of the lowest Mulligan winrates).

Compare this to something like Pharaoh Cat which has a 63% Mulligan WR. So I had a couple questions:

    1) Are people misplaying by keeping EVIL Miscreant? Or is there another reason for its low Mulligan WR?

    2) Why is SNIPSNAP's Mulligan WR & Kept % so high? Actually, why is SNIPSNAP even in the deck? There're no other mechs in the deck besides Zilliax - is that one card really worth SNIPSNAP being there?

    3) Why is the Mulligan WR for Galakrond & Kronx so high? You would generally want to mulligan these right? But they have the highest WR's. Thanks!
